Throughout the head coaching cycle, the Baltimore Ravens coaching staff has consistently made headlines, but it hasn’t stopped there.
According to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec, many assistants are now being requested for interviews for coordinator roles throughout the
league. According to reports, Chris Hewitt, the secondary coach and pass game coordinator, will interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars
defensive coordinator position, while Dennard Wilson, the defensive backs coach, will allegedly interview for the open defensive
coordinator position with the New York Giants.
Dennard Wilson, a secondary coach
Hewitt interviewed and was a contender for the defensive coordinator post with the Ravens before Mike McDonald was hired. Hewitt
was “viewed as the heir apparent to Martindale if the latter got a head coaching job,” according to Zrebiec during the last hiring cycle.
Coach of defensive backs Dennard Wilson
After twelve years in the NFL, Wilson coached defensive backs for nine of those years. Before taking over as head coach of the Ravens,
Wilson played two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, where his elite pass defense—which gave up only 179.8 yards per game—
helped the team win Super Bowl LVII.
In addition, Wilson has developed a number of elite defensive backs, such as Marcus Maye, Darius Slay, James Bradberry, Jamal
Adams, and recently, First-Team All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton.
Wilson joined the Ravens when Sean Desai was hired by the Eagles, who passed on the assistant coach.
