With more than two months remaining in the regular season, Dallas Mavericks supporters are excited to watch how the team
performs. The Mavericks strengthened their frontcourt by acquiring Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford and Charlotte
Hornets forward PJ Washington before the trade deadline. Now, on Saturday, the two large men may make their Dallas debuts.
According to Brad Townsend of Dallas Morning News, neither Washington nor Gafford’s names were mentioned in the team’s most
recent injury report.
Dallas’ decision to bolster their frontcourt is a response to the team’s general deficiency in rebounds. The Mavericks now rank 25th in
the NBA in rebounding average with 41.5 per game. Furthermore, Dallas only averages 31.6 defensive rebounds per game, which ranks
the team 26th overall.
Not that the Mavericks’ interior defense isn’t in need of improvement. The club only manages 4.3 blocks per game (26th overall), but
allows 53.3 points in the paint (22nd overall). The Mavericks have suffered from these stats, which may be a big factor in Dallas’s
current eighth-place finish in the Western Conference.
The team’s dynamic mix of guards and wings will be complemented by stronger frontcourt players, making the Mavericks a more
fearsome opponent on paper. Fans might also be able to see a preview of their new arrivals on Saturday against the Oklahoma City
Thunder.
