GREEN BAY, Wisconsin: The Green Bay Packers have not made any additions in NFL free agency since Xavier McKinney and Josh
Jacobs were added a week ago. Clearly, general manager Brian Gutekunst is in the bargain-hunting phase even with a sizable amount
of salary-cap room.
These eight excellent deals could be beneficial to the team in 2024.
Three Players Will OTly Resign Yosh Nijman: In 2021 and 2022, Nijman started 21 games, which helped the Packers cope with David
Bakhtiari’s departure. Despite the setback of losing the swing-tackle position to Rasheed Walker last year, he is still only 28 years old.
He can play both tackle positions, is athletic, and is familiar with the offense. 95 tackles participated in at least 139 of Nijman’s pass-
protecting snaps in the previous campaign. He came in at number sixty.
Eric Wilson, LB: Why GM One of life’s mysteries is why Brian Gutekunst didn’t jump into a talented bunch of free-agent linebackers.
Certainly, the Packers will use two off-the-ball linebackers for around three-quarters of the defensive snaps, regardless of whether they
play the old 3-4 or the new 4-3. That would be Isaiah McDuffie and Quay Walker for the time being. Nonetheless, McDuffie and
Wilson, the backups from the previous season, combined to play 634 defensive snaps. Wilson is a skilled athlete who excels on special
teams. In 2020, he had 121 tackles, 8 tackles for losses, and 8 passes defensed for the Vikings.
S Rudy Ford: Xavier McKinney will start at one position, with a potential draft pick starting at number two. But where is the
profundity? In addition to his speed and keen sense of the game, Ford is a skilled tackler and a dependable member of the special
teams unit. His five interceptions over the last two seasons tie him with Jaire Alexander for the team lead. Accept PFF’s ratings as
given, but over the previous two seasons, he was Green Bay’s fourth-ranked defense. For a third safety, you could do much worse than
Ford.
