Through the transfer portal, Tennessee has secured its second commitment. The Volunteers have recruited a
seasoned player in former MTSU safety Jakobe Thomas, after seeing six defensive backs join the transfer portal thus
far.
On Saturday night, Thomas declared that he was switching from Oregon State to Tennessee.
Earlier in the week, Thomas made a commitment to Oregon State, but he soon changed his mind after receiving the
Tennessee offer. The native of Tullahoma leaped at the chance to don the Orange and White for the first time. The
staff at Tennessee closed the deal with the former Blue Raider and persuaded him to come this weekend.
Thomas still has two seasons left to be eligible. Among them were Auburn, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Mississippi State,
and Washington State. Thomas, an MTSU player, ended the season with 71 tackles and three tackles for loss. Five
pass break-ups, a forced fumble, a blocked punt, and a fumble recovery were all awarded to him.
Given the departure of Jaylen McCollough and the likelihood of Wesley Walker being out as well, he should enter the
battle at safety right away. For the upcoming season, Tennessee will have Andre Turrentine, John Slaughter,
Jourdan Thomas, and Will Brooks back. Starting in the spring, Tim Banks and Willie Martinez will have to piece that
puzzle together.
