After declassifying from the 2023 cycle in order to enroll early with the Aggies, Overton was ranked as the sixth
talent overall in the 2022 recruiting class. In his 11 games as a true freshman, he recorded 31 total tackles, 3 tackles
for loss, and a sack. He made an immediate impact.
This past season, he felt that something needed to change after seeing a decline in his numbers.
It seemed like a really worthwhile learning experience. At A&M, I matured well,” Overton said to ESPN. “Everyone
who was coaching when I was there, including Coach [Terry] Price, did a great job. Particularly after [Price] passed
away, it was a learning process. The entire curve, in my opinion, changed. It was a fresh approach to defense and
At the age of 55, Price passed away in June after 28 years of coaching defensive linemen in the SEC. The reason of
death was not stated.
During his transfer process, Overton claimed to have received correspondence from Alabama, South Carolina,
Florida State, and Texas.
In the end, the Crimson Tide prevailed, and a major factor in his choice was the chance to play.
“They’re looking, because they have a few guys leaving this year,” Overton stated. “For pass rush, they’re genuinely
searching for pure ends. I’ll be stepping in to cover at defensive end.
In addition to receiver Raymond Cottrell, offensive lineman Chase Bisontis, former five-star defensive tackle Walter
Nolen, and a few other players, Overton is the first transfer to arrive at Alabama this summer.
