The winger joined the Owls for the remainder of the season on Deadline Day, as the Whites disclosed on their official website on February 1.
Before moving to Hillsborough, the 23-year-old made 10 appearances this season under Daniel Farke in all competitions.
On February 2, Poveda posted on Instagram to share his excitement for his new chapter at Sheffield Wednesday, saying, “Over the moon to be here! First and foremost, I want to thank the Boss for believing in me and the supporters for their kind welcome! Cheers to Wednesday! Time for the show.
Ayling, a colleague from Leeds who is now on loan from the Whites in the Championship, replied with the remark, “Go shine brother.”
On transfer deadline day, teams in the Championship made a number of last-minute attempts to get deals done, and Leeds United made sure they were involved in the action.
In addition to Poveda’s expected departure from the team, Farke successfully negotiated a contract for Connor Roberts, a defender for Burnley, which is a positive development for their hopes of promotion from the Championship.
But given that Poveda, 23, was among the first players signed during the period that marked the beginning of the Whites’ comeback in English football under Marcel Bielsa, his departure heralds a momentous new chapter for both clubs.
The player, who signed with the Whites in January 2020, had a little part in the team’s Premier League promotion.
However, Poveda hasn’t exactly been getting first-team playing time lately—during his Leeds tenure, he was loaned to both Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool.
Now that he has experience and talent, along with his new club’s present troubles, the attacker will be eager to play regular games, and that shouldn’t be an issue. A player of his caliber is much needed by Sheffield Wednesday, and perhaps this is his moment to shine.
Poveda is expected to provide the Owls, who are presently ranked 23rd in the Championship standings, a new outlook and an offensive boost as they battle to avoid relegation.
