After the 2023 season, the Green Bay Packers are undoubtedly eager about what is next for them. The fact that the Packers are the
youngest team to make it to the divisional round of the playoffs in recent memory has received a lot of attention. The Packers were
three points from winning the conference title in a year that was expected to be a rebuilding year.
The Packers’ current challenge is to continue what they have begun. This might include freeing up some cap money to make room for
free agency additions that might lengthen this team’s season. One estimate claims that with one transaction (which appears plausible),
the Packers may clear $27 million over the following three seasons.
The Packers, who have just $8 million in free agency, will probably want to make room on the roster for both their existing players and
any prospective free agent additions.
Ken Ingalls delineated the actions that Green Bay ought to take in the upcoming weeks, with a section marked as “goodbye.” Among
such names were De’Vondre Campbell and David Bakhtiari.
At inside linebacker, Campbell made the All-Pro team in his debut season with the Green Bay Packers. Throughout his time with the
Packers, Campbell has made a substantial contribution; but, in recent years, injuries have caused a drop in his performance and/or
output. It wouldn’t be shocking if the Packers let Campbell go during the offseason.
As of right now, estimates have De’Vondre Campbell’s 2024 cap hit at $14.407 million. If he is freed, dead money will total $11.628
million.
Cutting a pretty key player due to savings of less than $3 million is not the only financial issue.
But the Packers will also save up $12.532 million in salary space in the next two years if they cut Campbell in 2024. That is quite a
distinction.
Over $27 million would be saved in the course of the following three seasons. This may be a no-brainer decision if the Packers feel
confident in their prospects at ILB.
