Lewis Hamilton has provided additional details about his decision to sign a 2025 contract with Ferrari. The British driver has revealed
what transpired after he signed a deal with Mercedes last summer. The seven-time world champion talked more about the impact of
his friendship with Scuderia chief Fred Vasseur and his desire to close off his career with the Silver Arrows with a bang.
The seven-time world champion had previously hinted that he would finish his career in the sport with Mercedes, so the
announcement of Hamilton’s move to Ferrari caught everyone off guard when it broke at the start of February. In the summer of 2023,

But Hamilton was able to sign a contract with Ferrari by triggering a release option in his Mercedes contract. He will join Ferrari for
the upcoming season following his last Mercedes campaign in 2024.
Hamilton made a good impression on the Bahrain pre-season testing circuit when speaking about his first impressions of Mercedes’
new W15 vehicle. However, the 39-year-old was not short of questions over his upcoming transfer to the red squad outside of the
vehicle.
Hamilton gave the following explanation when asked what had changed between choosing to sign with Ferrari and Mercedes last
summer: “When we signed, I clearly saw my future with Mercedes at that time.” However, in the new year, a chance presented itself,
and I chose to seize it.
It was undoubtedly the most difficult choice I have ever had to make, in my opinion. It goes without saying that I have been supported
by Mercedes for, I believe, 26 years, and we have had an amazing adventure together. I am really happy of what we have accomplished
and I take great delight in the history we have made in the sport.
“However, I believe that in the end, I’m writing my story, and I thought it was time to begin a new chapter.”
Following the announcement of the transfer, Hamilton remarked on social media that joining Ferrari will let him to realize a
“childhood dream.” He went on to expand on this point in Bahrain.
Hamilton remarked, “Of course, I think probably all of us sit in our garage and see the screen pop up, and you see the driver in the red
cockpit and you wonder what it would be like to be surrounded by the red.” Hamilton had grown up watching drivers throughout
history, including Michael Schumacher in his prime.
“You can only be in awe of the sea of scarlet Ferrari supporters when you attend the Italian Grand Prix. This is a team that hasn’t had
much success since 2007, therefore I considered it to be a significant task. It’s true that I played [in video games] as Michael in that car
when I was younger.
