NFL draft projections by Mel Kiper Jr. suggest that the 49ers could be doomed……

In this year’s draft, the 49ers are in a difficult situation. Their first priority going into the draft will be offensive tackle, and they will

select at No. 31 overall, when the majority of the talented group of offensive line prospects will probably be selected. A move up would

also be challenging to carry out considering the high demand for the top candidates in this year’s OT class.

49ers potential disaster in Mel Kiper Jr. NFL draft predictions

If a trade is not available, they could try to discover a diamond with a few high-upside Day 2 and 3 selections. As they do in Mel Kiper

Jr.’s most recent mock draft, they might possibly target a player at No. 31 overall. The outcome in this case

As is customary, Kiper has the greatest OT chances at the end of the first round, ahead of the 49ers’ slot. A few OTs who have been

sent to San Francisco are anticipated to go late in the first or early in the second round. They’ve also received a few defenders

dispatched to them. Kiper sends them Washington offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten in place of doing that.

Rosengarten has the potential to become a tackle of starting caliber. He had a couple successful seasons as a starter, although his best

years were spent blocking passes rather than runs. However, there is undoubtedly some improvement that is required.

Rosengartner weighs 308 pounds and is 6 feet 5 inches, not very big. In addition, he is not a very skilled athlete. Kyle Shanahan’s

scheme requires the 49ers’ offensive tackles to be mobile, efficient run blockers. In college, Rosengartner didn’t really display that, and

his athletic profile doesn’t always suggest he has enough potential to become a starter in this particular offense.

Given the extent of their need at that position, the 49ers would find it difficult to accept taking an OT who might not even play in the

first season. If Rosengartner never rises above the status of a backup offensive tackle, it would be disastrous for the San Francisco

Giants, who hope to prolong their Super

This season, the 49ers need to upgrade at right tackle, and when Trent Williams eventually decides to retire, they should ideally have

that person move legitimately to the left side. As a prospect, Rosengartner doesn’t seem to meet that description. While it would be OK

to take him on Day 2, the 49ers must secure their first-round selection this year considering their difficulties in Round 1 and the

possibility of a top-tier player exodus in the upcoming years.

Reaching for an overtime just to tick that box is not a higher priority than finding a strong player at any position.
