Although he plays on one of the worst contracts in the league, Green Bay Packers’ running back is already among the best in the
league.
According to Pro Football Talk, Aaron Jones gave up $5 million before the 2023 season in order to stay with the Packers. Due to many
injuries, Jones’ output was modest to moderate for the majority of the regular season, but in the final stretch, he really got hot. In

yards and three touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys during Super Wild Card Weekend.
Jones has a spotless record with the Packers organization, both as a player and as a person. That being said, the franchise will have to
pay a hefty price to continue that history in 2024. Rather than shelling out the cash to keep Jones, Green Bay may opt for an even
more feasible route to victory and trade for Tennessee Titans four-time Pro Bowler Derrick Henry.
After the team’s regular season finale in Week 18, Henry effectively said goodbye to Tennessee fans, but he’s not ready to say goodbye
to the NFL. On the podcast “Bussin’ With The Boys” from January 17, Henry stated his stance in that regard.
Henry declared, “I want to win a Super Bowl.” “I’m not even close to finished playing; I’m not done yet.
Packers Could Get a Discounted Pro-Bowl Play from Derrick Henry
Because of his age and use history, Henry might be a troublesome acquisition, either as a stand-alone signing or to replace Jones. The
eight-year NFL veteran recently turned thirty, an age that has historically served as a marker for organizations to start undervaluing
running backs due to the position’s violent temperament and the estimated amount of tread on their tires.
Teams who are considering Henry won’t have to worry about the volume of work Tennessee has put on him in the previous five years.
Henry ran the ball more than any other running back in the NFL for the fourth time in the previous five years in 2023, finishing first in
the league with 280 carries. The one season he didn’t play was 2021, when he was sidelined by injury for half of the season.
Henry has excelled despite his heavy schedule. According to Pro Football Reference, he ran for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns in the
previous season, making him a four-time Pro Bowl selection in the previous five seasons. Throughout his career, he has amassed 9,502
yards and 90 touchdowns on the ground in addition to 155 catches for 1,458 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.
In 2023, Henry participated in the last season of his four-year, $50 million deal with the Titans. On a one-year contract in 2024,
Spotrac predicts his current market worth at $4.3 million.
Jones is slated to make $12 million in annual cash ($11.1 million in salary) on the last season of a four-year, $48 million contract,
while cap analysts project Henry to play for somewhere around $4 million next season. At $17.575 million, his salary cap hit is
considerably more detrimental.
In the meanwhile, Spotrac puts Jones’ current market worth at $5.1 million per year, implying that if he signs somewhere if the
Packers decide to cut him during the summer, the agreement would only be for one year.
Although the Green Bay supporters could protest, doing so might also be the wise financial move. If the team decides to trade or cut
Jones after June 1, they may save almost $11.1 million.
After having his least productive season since his rookie year, backup running back AJ Dillon is set to hit free agency in March, which
means he may also leave Green Bay.
