As the NFL’s formal new year approaches on March 13, the San Francisco 49ers have already had to make some difficult decisions.
The Niners decided to cut veteran defensive tackle and team captain Arik Armstead, who had the longest contract since he was chosen
in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, in order to save cap space.
Armstead was asked by San Francisco to accept a pay reduction, but he turned it down. Additionally, Jason Fitzgerald at Over the Cap
believes that a release after June 1 will provide more than $18 million in cap space.
The 49ers will need to add some significant depth to go with All-Pro pass rusher Nick Bosa and fellow defensive tackle Javon Hargrave
because they have some other urgent needs along the edge. particularly because several defensive lineman are about to become free
agents.

will be kept mostly due to his special teams skills, which have been valued by San Francisco in recent times.

with special teams ace and backup safety George Odum, who is back on a two-year contract worth up to $10.8 million.
Quarterback Brandon Allen, Brock Purdy’s third-string backup from the previous campaign, has returned on a one-year contract,
