Reuben Foster, a former All-American from Alabama and first-round selection in the NFL draft, worked out for the
Miami Dolphins on Wednesday.
Next, Foster updated his Instagram followers on a potential NFL comeback. “Didn’t get the job, but I’m grateful for
every opportunity I get,” Foster added. I’m grateful, @miamidolphins.
Foster and Terrell Lewis, another NFL-experienced linebacker who was teammates at Alabama, were worked out by
the Dolphins. Lewis played his debut season as a Crimson Tide player in 2016, Foster’s last season.
Lewis wasn’t signed by the Dolphins either.
Linebacker Jerome Baker of the Dolphins left the game due to a knee injury during Miami’s 45–15 victory over the
Washington Commanders on Sunday. Mike McDaniel, the coach of Miami, stated on Wednesday that Baker’s injury
was a “week-to-week deal” and that the linebacker would not be placed on injured reserve.
Foster, who won the Butkus Award as the nation’s finest linebacker at Alabama in 2016 and was named the state’s
Class 6A Lineman of the Year at Auburn High School in 2012, last appeared in an NFL game on October 28, 2018.
On May 20, 2019, Foster suffered a tear to his left knee’s lateral collateral ligament and anterior cruciate ligament
during a Washington Redskins offseason practice. Before missing the seasons of 2021 and 2022 due to injury, he was
placed on Washington’s injured reserve for two years.
Foster returned to action earlier this year while playing for the Pittsburgh Maulers in the USFL.
Lewis is a more recent NFL player. Before being waived on December 16, 2022, Lewis, a third-round selection in the
2020 NFL Draft, participated in 30 games during the regular season with the Los Angeles Rams.
Four days later, Lewis was signed by the Chicago Bears.
Lewis was a member of Chicago’s 53-player active roster on August 28, the day the organization cut its preseason
roster in order to comply with the NFL’s regular-season cap.
However, the Bears were granted two players off waivers the day following the roster cuts, and Lewis was one of the
players Chicago released to make room on the roster for the waiver claims.
After trying out for the team on September 13, Lewis signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints; however, on
October 2, he was cut from the practice squad.
