On June 23, 2024, drag racing legend John Force, aged 75, was involved in a harrowing accident during the NHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park. After achieving a 306.62 mph victory, his Chevrolet Camaro’s engine exploded, causing the car to veer across the track and collide with both concrete guard walls. Despite the severity of the crash, Force exited the vehicle under his own power and was promptly attended to by the NHRA Medical Team before being airlifted to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Following the incident, Force’s family, including his wife Laurie and daughters Brittany, Adria, Ashley, and Courtney, remained by his side at the hospital. Brittany Force, a two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion, chose not to compete in the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, to stay with her father during his recovery.

In the days after the crash, Force was moved from the trauma intensive care unit to the neurological intensive care unit to address head injuries sustained during the accident. Medical staff exercised caution in assessing the extent of his injuries due to the crash’s intensity, and no specific recovery timeline was provided.

The racing community expressed widespread support for Force, with teammates and fans sending messages of encouragement. Teammate Austin Prock dedicated his victory at the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals to Force, highlighting the deep respect and camaraderie within the sport.

As of the latest updates, Force’s condition remains serious, and his family continues to provide support during his recovery. The racing community eagerly anticipates further updates on his health and potential return to the track.
