Ainias Smith, a receiver for Texas A&M, did not take part in any Scouting Combine workouts or testing on Saturday.
Smith’s left shin was found to have a stress fracture during medical exams at the combine, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
Next week, Smith will see a specialist.
His predicted selection is for the late second or third day.
Smith only appeared in four games in 2022 due to a leg fracture he sustained at AT&T Stadium versus Arkansas. Rather than going
into the draft, he spent a fifth season at A&M. Smith rewarded the Aggies in 2023 with 20 punt returns for 285 yards and a
touchdown, seven kickoff returns for 103 yards, and 58 touches for 816 yards and two touchdowns.
In his career, he became the first athlete in SEC history to have over 2,000 receiving yards and 800 punt return yards.
Smith averaged 10.2 yards on 82 punt return returns during his career, including two scores. Throughout his career, he returned
kickoffs for an average of 18.0 yards.
Smith mentioned that he had spoken with Wes Welker, the Dolphins’ receivers coach, who indicated that Smith reminded him of
himself.
This week, Smith stated, “A lot of teams have talked to me about playing receiver in the slot.” They genuinely want to know whether I
can play outside… In addition, many teams have expressed interest in me since I can play some running back, most likely in third.
