The $8 million roster bonus compels the Packers to decide on Jaire Alexander in the early offseason.

Jaire Alexander, a cornerback for the Packers, is punished after he decided to disrupt Sunday’s coin toss in Charlotte. They’ll soon have to decide on Alexander once more, which will be difficult.

Adam Schefter of ESPN.com has reported that Alexander’s $8 million roster bonus is due in March.

Contracts frequently contain clauses like this. It compels a team to decide quickly whether to cut free or bring the player back. The athlete is more likely to receive maximum pay elsewhere if he is cut sooner.

The complete terms of Alexander’s $84 million, four-year contract that he inked with the Packers in May 2022 are included below. Schefter claims that the Packers would save $3 million in dead money by cutting Alexander by 2024, but in actuality, the Packers would eventually have to pay more than $27.4 million.

The Packers would have $8.364 million hit the cap in 2024 if Alexander is cut with a post-June 1 designation, with the remaining $19.092 going toward the 2025 cap.

Alexander played in 16 regular-season games and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2022. Only six this year due to injuries.
