Journalist Peter Windsor claims that Red Bull has made a contract offer to a current Formula One driver to take Sergio Perez’s place at
the team starting in the 2025 season.
The announcement coincides with Mercedes’ pursuit of a successor for Lewis Hamilton, who is set to depart the Silver Arrows and join
Ferrari in 2025.
Though it’s yet unknown who his teammate is, George Russell will take the helm as the Mercedes team leader.
Toto Wolff, the principal of the Mercedes team, stated to the media on Friday: “I’m excited to take on this challenge [of replacing
Hamilton] with my colleagues.”
Maybe this is an opportunity to take a risk.
“I wouldn’t have believed you if you had told me two days ago that Lewis would attend Ferrari. Rapid changes are possible. Contracts
are subject to modification. One can never predict what could occur in the driver market.
Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari contract expires at the end of the 2024 season, therefore Hamilton will take over for the Spaniard.
Right now, Sainz is the clear favorite to virtually replace Hamilton in the Mercedes driver’s position; Esteban Ocon and Fernando
Alonso are also possible candidates.
Alex Albon, a driver for Williams who has shown promise in his two seasons with the Grove, Pennsylvania-based team, has also been
connected to the position.
Prior to serving a year as a reserve driver, Albon raced with Max Verstappen at Red Bull for one and a half seasons.
After that, he was freed from his contract to rejoin Williams as a full-time driver.
However, that transfer might not be feasible, according to seasoned journalist and former F1 team manager Windsor.
He says Red Bull has offered a deal to bring Albon back from the team to replace Perez.
“As I understand it, Albon has been offered a three-year contract by Red Bull to start in 2025,” stated Windsor in a video posted to his
YouTube page.
Thus, I believe you will witness him riding in the Red Bull with Max Verstappen. I find it impossible that he will refuse it.
“As I understand, it’s not a 100 per cent, but 90 per cent correct.”
Mercedes will therefore probably need to move quickly if they want the Thai driver to take Hamilton’s spot at Mercedes the following
season.
