With the addition of their new assistant coach, the San Francisco 49ers are hiring across divisional boundaries.
KJ Wright, a former linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks, announced on Monday that he would be joining the 49ers coaching staff. In
San Francisco, he will work as a defensive quality control and assistant linebackers coach. Wright revealed the information on his
podcast.
The 34-year-old Wright is a legend with the NFC West rival Seahawks. From 2011 until 2016, he was a player with the Seattle
Seahawks, where he won Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 and was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2016. Wright, a right linebacker, was a key
member of that era’s formidable Seattle defense, which included a 2013 playoff triumph over the 49ers.
After losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII last month, San Francisco made changes to their defensive coaching staff.
Nick Sorensen just took over for DC Steve Wilks, and the team also acquired a well-known former NFL coach to that side of the ball.
