On Saturday night, Newcastle United must defeat Nottingham Forest, and they may have a terrific opportunity to
accomplish it.

Last Saturday, the Magpies were held to a 4–4 draw by Luton Town, which was a disappointing point. Eddie Howe’s
team put up a very lackluster effort; they had to work really hard to even get a point.
This was just another blow in what is turning out to be a difficult Premier League season for Newcastle, whose
chances of qualifying for the Champions League are dwindling by the week.
Newcastle’s next opponent is Nottingham Forest, who have already defeated the Magpies this year. At St. James’
Park, they triumphed 3-1, with Chris Wood scoring a hat-trick in the match against his old team. But he’s injured, so
he won’t be playing this weekend.
Fans of Newcastle who are still haunted by what Wood did on Boxing Day will find that encouraging, and the events
of Wednesday night should instill even more hope in Toon supporters.
Only a few days before playing Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest plays extra time.
While Nuno Espirito Santo’s team was playing in the FA Cup on Wednesday night, Newcastle’s players had been
practicing all week in preparation for their matchup with Forest. They needed penalties to get there, but they
defeated Bristol City to go to the fifth round.
After Forest’s match against the Championship side went into extra time, Morgan Gibbs-White appeared to be
seriously injured. It is uncertain if he will be ready for Saturday’s game because he was limping during extra time.
