GREEN BAY, Wisconsin: AJ Dillon, a running back, agreed to a one-year contract to rejoin the Green Bay Packers.
Dillon missed the final three games of the season due to a stinger, thus the news of his re-signing didn’t surface until Thursday night,
even though it was still pending a physical.
On Friday, it was formally announced.
Unexpectedly, Aaron Jones was cut loose and is now playing for the Minnesota Vikings, while Dillon went back to the organization
who selected him with the second overall pick in the 2020 draft.
The Packers will then have their tandem for the 2024 season. It’s going to be Thunder and Thunder with Josh Jacobs and Dillon
instead of Lightning and Thunder of Jones and Dillon.
General Manager Brian Gutekunst stated at the Scouting Combine, “You have to have two.” “AJ has been a huge help to us over the
last four years, and we would be thrilled to have him back.” We’ll see where that goes, but eventually we’re going to have to deal with
that.
Despite finishing with a career-worst 3.4-yard average last season due to his inability to make up for Jones’ prolonged absences, Dillon
has been an important role player the previous three seasons.
“Success Rate,” a statistic from Pro Football Reference, serves as the strongest proof. It is equivalent to Green Bay’s win/loss rating
scheme. For example, a 4-yard run on first-and-10 would gain 40 percent of the yards on first down; any run that gains at least 60
percent of the
Fifty running backs saw at least 275 carries between 2021 and 2023. With a 55.9% success percentage, Dillon had the highest in the
NFL. His 50.0 percent completion rate placed him 10th out of 41 running backs with at least 110 carries, even in a dismal 2023.
