In anticipation of their College Football Playoff game against the Michigan Wolverines, the Alabama Crimson Tide
are getting ready. It appears that head coach Nick Saban is looking for every edge to defeat Jim Harbaugh’s group.
George Helow, a former linebackers coach at Michigan, was hired by Alabama on Thursday.
Former Michigan Wolverine George Helow is hired by the Alabama Crimson Tide Coach
In 2021 and 2022, Helow was the linebackers’ coach. He helped lead the team to the playoffs the previous two years,
but he did not play any part with the squad this year when the parties mutually decided to separate ways in February.
Here, Saban is playing a classic game of chess. Helow might offer some insightful commentary, but the main thing to
remember about this shift is that Michigan needs to account for it in its planning. Will they feel compelled to adjust a
few defensive strategies in an attempt to offset what Helow knows?
Traditional Saban
Nick Saban done traditional style. When it comes to using these chess tactics against other coaches, he is an expert.
But Harbaugh is a difficult one to overcome. He is not intimidated by this, in my opinion, and the squad has
probably made some changes for 2023 just because a new coach was appointed. Not every coach leaves their mark,
thus it won’t be exactly the same as in previous years. It’s uncertain if Helow will have a significant part or if this is
just a ploy.
It’s plays like this that provide so much excitement to college football. This move raises the stakes even further,
making the matchup already thrilling.
