The University of Michigan football team has selected a school affiliated with athletic director Warde Manuel as its
second non-conference opponent for 2027.
The program revealed on Thursday that the University at Buffalo will play the Wolverines on September 4, 2027, at
Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.
Although the game’s terms were not made public, the Mid-American Conference program is anticipated to earn a
seven-figure
salary for entering the competition.
Two non-Big Ten games for Michigan are now scheduled for 2027: the matchup with Buffalo and the previously
planned September 11 matchup against Texas.
In the event that nothing further is added, this will be the first time the two football teams have faced off since the
Wolverines defeated them 128-0 in 1901.
The Bulls have won four East Division championships and a conference championship in 2008 since joining the
MAC in 1998. After defeating Rutgers 42–13 in 2018, they have now dropped their last four games against Big Ten
opponents.
Maurice Linguist, their head coach at the moment, was an assistant at Michigan. From 2005 to 2012, Manuel, the
athletic director of Michigan, was Buffalo’s AD.
The addition means that Michigan’s 2027 non-conference schedule has one opening left. In addition, the Wolverines
are searching for non-conference opponents for 2028, as Washington is expected to join the Big Ten.
