FAYETTEVILLE: The Arkansas Razorbacks gymnastics team moved up in the weekly rankings after losing on the road to Alabama last

Friday.

Based on average scores, the Razorbacks’ school-record score of 197.525 at Coleman Coliseum was good for a tie, placing them at No. 4

in this week’s rankings.

Alabama’s average of 197.292 moved them down from third to sixth place.

Arkansas has began with back-to-back 197s for the first time in school history under fifth-year coach Jordyn Wieber. The team’s

average of 197.338 is just behind LSU’s (1974.417) record for the top spot in the SEC.

“This team is just getting better and better,” Wieber remarked following the game’s historic victory over Alabama.

The remaining eight teams in the top ten, which include LSU, Arkansas, and Alabama, No. 7 Kentucky (197.283), No. 8 Florida

(197.213), and No. 9 Missouri (197.008), demonstrate the depth of the SEC. Six of the top nine teams are from the league.

The remaining eight teams in the conference are not far behind, with Georgia (196.533) in eighth place and Auburn (196.883) in 13th.

At Barnhill Arena on Friday night at 7 p.m., Arkansas takes on Auburn.

This season, the Razorbacks have made minor adjustments to their routines, but the majority of their improved score can be

attributed to the minute details: more vertical hand-stands, fewer wobbles, and more sticky landings.

Additionally, through two meetings, the depth of the squad has been demonstrated by their extremely outstanding sophomore class,

which is led by Lauren Williams, Leah Smith, and Frankie Price—all Rogers products—and is further enhanced by Maddie Jones and

ace specialists like Jensen Scalzo, Kalyxta Gamiao, and Makenzie Sedlacek. Wieber has a variety of impressive routines to choose from

each week when she includes freshman all-arounder Priscilla Park, other freshmen Sierra Linton and Hailey Klein, and the other

sophomores Cami Weaver, Cally Swaney, Reese Drotar, and Jaime Pratt.

at order to set a school record and end a 17-meet losing run versus Alabama, Arkansas needed to score no less than 49.3 on any given event at Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This was made possible by all of those gymnasts.

“They just keep impressing me,” Wieber remarked on Friday evening. “They’re so talented.”

This week’s strategy, Wieber continued, was “just keeping our eyes focused on what got us here so far.”
