Zvonimir “Big Z” Ivisic of Kentucky had a fantastic start on Saturday, going 13 points (3 for 4 from 3) in the Wildcats’ 105-96 victory over the Bulldogs at Rupp Arena. The 7-foot-2 European NBA talent was eventually cleared by the NCAA to participate in his debut game after months of waiting.
In just 16 minutes of play, he opened his career with a barrage of 3-pointers, a block, a dunk, and a behind-the-back pass. He and his moniker thus became very well-known.
But the moniker “Big Z” appears to have been claimed by another institution. Purdue suggested that the Boilermakers think they have their own Big Z when they tweeted about Wooden Award winner Zach Edey earning his tenth Big Ten Player of the Week award this season.
The two are comparable to one another. Both Edey and Ivisic are genuine NBA prospects. Both are seven feet tall. Although they have distinct skill sets, Ivisic has talent that might soon place him among the best players in the nation, and Edey is a dominant force in the sport.
Although it’s unknown when Ivisic came up with the moniker, Big Z has been referred to by Kentucky fans since he joined the team in August.
However, Julia Edey, Edey’s mother, referred to her son as Big Z.
Maybe the Big Zs of college basketball will face off in the postseason. In the most recent bracketology from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, Purdue is rated first, and Kentucky is placed third. In addition to leading the Boilermakers to a national championship, Edey aims to win back-to-back Wooden Awards, a feat not done since Ralph Sampson Jr. forty years ago.

Hopefully, their meeting in the NCAA tournament will put an end to this argument.
