How Was Dillon Johnson’s Injury Caused?

In the last minute of the Sugar Bowl game against the Texas Longhorns, Johnson sustained an injury. After their

victory, there were several questions regarding his eligibility for the National Championship, particularly because the

young back had to be wheeled off to the locker room.

Johnson was seen writhing in agony in the moments following his accident, and trainers had to assist him in getting

to his feet. These were not good scenes.

Not helping either was Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer’s update following the game, which revealed

that Johnson’s foot injury sustained at the conclusion of the regular season was the cause.

I believe that has something to do with what he has been going through the past few months. DeBoer clarified, via

On3, “Obviously he was down and in some pain, but he’s been in pain the last couple of months.” He’s a really tough

man. He has shown incredible strength and never gives up. The injury actually occurred two or three weeks

remaining in the season.

For a Washington Huskies team that has been depending too heavily on its passing game to win, Dillon Johnson’s

loss would be disastrous.

Johnson really had 21 carries for 49 yards and two scores in their 37-31 victory over the Texas Longhorns on

Monday. He had a significant role in the Huskies’ ability to control the game all evening. Therefore, the Washington

attack would be completely destroyed if he was sidelined against the Michigan Wolverines in the College Football

Playoff National Championship.

Thankfully, Johnson won’t have to miss the game, based on the most recent information. Ryan Grubb, the offensive

coordinator for Washington, stated on Tuesday on a radio program that they “do expect him to play” when they

travel to Houston for the

According to Mike Vorel of the Seattle Times, Grubb said, “X-rays that were taken at the Superdome were negative.”

That is undoubtedly a good thing for the Huskies. They need every weapon they can muster for the match because

they are the underdogs versus the Wolverines going into it.

Michael Penix Jr. is a real threat to any squad, but he is not invincible on his own. Johnson’s presence should allow

Washington to play a more potent offense that will put more pressure on Michigan’s top-ranked defense.

When Johnson comes onto the NRG Stadium, hopefully, he’ll be at full strength.
