Nayef Aguerd, a star for West Ham, is now a major self-inflicted worry for David Moyes before of the match against Arsenal.
This Saturday, the London Stadium will host a crucial Premier League match between West Ham and Arsenal.
The majority of West Ham’s starting lineup is chosen by itself when everyone is healthy. And David Moyes has struggled with that this
season because the backup players are just not on the same level.
In most positions, Arsenal clearly has a deeper pool of quality players than the Hammers.
Thus, selection headaches are nothing new to Mikel Arteta.
Moyes, though, isn’t. Furthermore, he has often stated that he wants to work with a smaller team.
Arsenal’s Aguerd headache belongs to Moyes.
With 22 senior players, West Ham and Man City currently have the lightest squads in the Premier League, granting him his wish. This
was achieved during the January transfer window.
Center back is one position where West Ham does have some competition.
Furthermore, Moyes now has a major dilemma of his own due to Arsenal’s acquisition of West Ham striker Nayef Aguerd.
Konstantinos Mavropanos would undoubtedly come up at the top of any West Ham fan’s list when asked to select the team’s best
player from the unforgettable 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the end of December.
In addition to playing brilliantly against his old team, the former Gunners defender also scored a fantastic header.
Self-inflicted problem
Aguerd’s illness kept him out of action over the Christmas break before Morocco’s AFCON match, so Mavropanos filled in and did a
fantastic job overall, save for a disastrous error in Bristol.
In last week’s dull 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, he was West Ham’s best player.
However, Moyes unexpectedly benched the Greek international in favor of Aguerd during the team’s most recent 3-0 loss to
Manchester United.
It was an odd and unforgiving choice.
Aguerd has a left foot that is a wand. However, he also has a tendency to make highly expensive mistakes frequently, as Morocco
discovered when South Africa eliminated them from the AFCON.
Aguerd came from Rennes with a £30 million deal, and there was a lot of excitement surrounding him. It’s fair, though, to say that he
hasn’t quite lived up to it.
At Old Trafford, the defense seemed weaker with Aguerd in it, and he shared some of the blame for two of the goals.
Take him over to the Greek.
Following the match, Moyes justified his choice to substitute Aguerd for Mavropanos, stating that he prefers having a left-footed
defender for balance. But he acknowledged that the 26-year-old still has to work on certain areas of his game.
The Scotland player now has to choose whether to call up Mavropanos, who also performed admirably in the league cup victory over
Arsenal, 3-1.
Kurt Zouma has also not been very good lately. Therefore, Mavropanos
The management created this issue for himself. Mavropanos owned the clothing and ought to have held onto it until his shape
required him to do otherwise.
