Following Keagan Kirkby’s death, the British horseracing authorities will conduct a thorough investigation.
On Sunday, when competing in the Charing point-to-point, the 25-year-old’s horse went off course and collided with a jump’s side.
Despite receiving care from air ambulance and on-course professionals, he was declared dead at the site.
Paul Nicholls, the champion trainer, called him “one of our best, hardworking lads”.
In order to determine whether any lessons could be learned, the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and Point-to-Point Authority
promised to conduct the review.
“The required steps in response to this tragic incident commenced immediately after the race on Sunday and have continued today,”
stated a joint statement.

In 2019, Mr. Kirkby moved into Mr. Nicholls’ stables in the Somerset community of Ditcheat. This year, he was nominated for an
industry employees’ award.
The horse ran through a jump’s wing during the event’s last race, according to a statement from the Injured Jockeys Fund.
A wing is a plastic fence placed at an angle on both sides of a jump to direct the horse in the direction of the jump.
A report had been produced for the coroner, according to Kent Police, and the death was not being investigated as suspicious.

BBC Sport was informed by Ashford Borough Council that the incident was being investigated.
“We are saddened to hear of the young man’s death and are working with event organisers and the police to investigate this tragic
incident,” said a statement.
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues.”
