Pittsburgh — The Pittsburgh Steelers’ Sunday loss to the two-win Arizona Cardinals, one of the poorest teams in the NFL, is well-
known to us: careless pre-snap penalties, fumbles, poor snap decisions, a field goal that was missed, injuries, troubles in the red zone,
a deficiency in attack, subpar defense, etc.
Who cares how, because that’s how every team loses? The why should pique everyone’s curiosity more. as in, why did the Steelers,
against a team that, to be honest, stinks, play their worst football of the season once more?
Mason Cole claims the Cardinals are a “good football team,” but I don’t care what their record indicates.
No, Mason, they stink. They really do.
tense conclusion Zach Ertz was so desperate to get out that earlier in the week he begged to be released, and the Cardinals granted his
request right away. You identify more than one player on their defense, and I’ll give you that. I defy you to identify their head coach
and, as an added bonus, to tell me where he was the coach the previous season.
You are ignorant. Don’t feel too guilty about it, as hardly many people do.
That’s why the Cardinals’ 24-10 thrashing on Sunday is so concerning; it was probably one of Mike Tomlin’s three worst home losses
(along with Tampa Bay in 2014 and Oakland in 2009). The Cardinals had nothing to lose—possibly except pride—while the Steelers
had everything to play for.
