Kevin Pillar, a longtime outstanding defensive outfielder, has agreed to a minor league deal with the Chicago White Sox.
According to MLBTradeRumors’ Steve Adams on “X:” Pillar is an 11-year veteran who played for the Toronto Blue Jays for seven of
those years. Since leaving Toronto, he has also played for the Braves, New York Mets, Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants, and Los
Angeles Dodgers.
He has a lifetime batting average of.257, 105 home runs, and 96 stolen bases. Votes for MVP went to him throughout the 2019
campaign.
With the third-worst record in the American League and a fourth-place finish in the American League Central last season, Chris Getz,
the new general manager, has been busy making roster changes. He has worked hard this summer to improve the pitching staff,
acquiring Erik Fedde, Chris Flexen, and Mike Soroka in exchange for Aaron Bummer. In addition, they have veteran catcher Martin
Maldonado behind the plate and middle infielders Nicky Lopez and Paul DeJong.
Pillar ought to be given the chance to earn opportunities in the outfield. Luis Robert Jr. and Andrew Benintendi are the team’s regular
players, although Pillar, Oscar Colas, or Gavin Sheets might fill the third place.
